Looks like hundreds of people showed up for the Polar Bear Club's annual New Year's Day plunge in Coney Island. I swam at Coney Island yesterday at the Polar Bear swim. Well, I didn't actually swim, rather, I sprinted into the water, submerged myself, stood up and yelled, "Holy shit that's cold!" and then promptly ran back to the beach.
It was fun, and the trip to the aquarium afterward made for a terrific start to 2006.
Last year I attempted to do this because I hadn't been in New York for a New Year's in a while. Of course, it was a 60 degree day, so me and my friend didn't even bother.
This year? Stuck in Philly again. Maybe someday...
