Ending the Season on a Positive Note

2006_01_sjetsbills.jpgThe Jets can finally say that their season is mercifully over. The good news is that they ended it with a 30-26 win over the Buffalo Bills. The bad news is the win moved them to the 4th pick in the NFL Draft behind Houston, New Orleans/San Antonio/etc, and Tennessee. The Jets win was keyed by Justin Miller's 95-yard kickoff return late in the 4th quarter to take the lead. Ty Law, the lone Jets representative in the Pro Bowl, sealed the victory when he intercepted his 3rd pass of the game. Law finishes the season with a career and franchise high 10 INTs.

For the Jets, the season can probably be summed up in two words: injury and disappointment. Many NFL prognosticators predicted playoffs for the Jets, with some even predicting the Jets would win the AFC East. Unfortunately, early injury to Chad Pennington and his backup, Jay Fiedler, quickly scuttled any hopes of a playoff-bound season.

So, where do the Jets go from here? They are most likely out of the Reggie Bush hunt and probably won't be able to draft Matt Leinart. Can Pennington return from his 2nd shoulder injury to be an effective leader for a team that seemingly needs a lot of help? And, will head coach Herm Edwards be back or will he leave the Jets for the Chiefs?
