New Year's Eve in New York

2005_12_timessquare1.jpg

It's 9:18pm on New Year's Eve, and that means hundreds of thousands of people are already massing in Times Square. We'll be following the action from the warmth and security of our apartment-- but if you're out and about and want to share your experiences, send phone pictures to photos@gothamist.com! And if you're not going out, check out these links:

You couldn't convince me to be in Time's Square last night. I ran the NYRR race in Central Park at midnight. We had fireworks and fun dancing and great costumes to look at. Was a truly enjoyable 4 mile course and just so much fun to be a part of things there! I'd totally do it again.

  • Best of the new year.

Sadly I was on the "otherside" in The OC when the excitement hit.

Tonight I went to a party in Hell's Kitchen w/ a roof deck. We could see pretty clearly into Times Square, ball drop, fireworks & all. The best part--we were outside for less than 5 minutes.

Yeah, I did that once... never again!

I was in Times Square for ringing in 2000. Everyone's penned up like sheep, can't have any booze, else the cops just take it and smash it on the ground. Can't leave to pee, otherwise you can't get back in (one group of geniuses decided to form a pee-circle, which later became a vomit circle... entertaining nonetheless). In short; anticlimatic.

No New Yorker in their right mind out go out into that Mess. Especially that early.

    Suckers

  • When I watched the 6PM news on WNBC tonight they had Monica Morales out in Times Square. All the people she interviewed were tourists.
