That is truly a great late-night stop. Too bad I'm never in midtown then.

Hellz yeah. Any night that ends in a trip here is a good night.

also love Rafiqi's cart on 52nd and Park. Was wondering if there was any way to find the recipe for Halal chicken to make it at home!

You are so right. Hung out under their awning on many a cold night. Another key to their superiority is they use real rice - basmati, I think - instead of that parboiled Uncle Ben's crap.

Hey Jen,
I love Gothamist, so pardon me for nit-picking...

You state, "The chicken fortuitously shares griddle space with lamb..."

"Fortuitously" means "happening by accident", which I don't think is what you meant here...

It is not a synonym for "fortunately", which makes more sense in this context...

Sorry it took so long to get to this post, I've been out of town for the holidays and am just catching up.

Keep up the good work!

There is no such thing as a recipe for halal chicken. To be halal, the chicken just has to be raised in the appropriate way (discussed in the article) and slaughtered by cutting the windpipe. There is also the condition of mentioning the name of God when killing the animal, but scholars differ on how necessary it is to do this. Obviously none of this is what's usually meant by the word "recipe."

The meat in the background of the top picture looks like shawerma? The picture looks like it could have been taken at one of the halal restaurants near campus in Berkeley called Meesha's.

the best late night eats, and GREATEST VALUE.... EVER. don't try to go during the day, though. there is a cart that sits there, but it's NOT the same folks.

It's over-rated. I used to go there when they had first started in the biz and the food was good then but now it's all hype. beofre the chicken used ot be juicy but now it's all dry. You can get something just as good from most other places instead of spending an hour in line.
