Nice hard-hitting investigative reporting. Wolf Blitzer and Anderson Cooper are trembling in fear.

  • I'd like to invite you to visit the new Flickr group dedicated to the 2005 New York City Transit Strike. Hopefully all you Photographer's/Flickrati took your cameras with you while you trudged to work via your alternate choice of transport (probably by foot for at least part of it).

Let us in on what interesting things you got to see.

For photos relating to the 2005 NYC (New York City) Transit Strike. Possible entries could be: Closed Stations, Crowds walking over Bridges, Checkpoints for Car pooling zones and whatever else got changed by the Transit Strike.

  • It was really quiet at 8am on the UES, but then as I got closer to the Queensboro bridge, the cars piled up. Many people must have jumped into cars to get free rides into the city.

Overall I think many Manhattanites are very pleased with the lack of traffic on the streets today and I think the HOV restrictions on entry into the city could be a lasting impact of the strike.

I write about transportation policy and many other topics related to how we can adapt NYC to a post-peak oil world at The Oil Drum NYC http://www.nyc.theoildrum.com

Smith Street seems almost as crowded as weekend brunch time.

Did Bloomberg have the press conference yet? Did the court rule to impose those wonderful fines?

Under the Taylor Law (as I understand it, which doesn't mean much), it's illegal to negotiate the pensions:

"4. The term "terms and conditions of employment" means salaries, wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment provided, however, that such term shall not include any benefits provided by or to be provided by a public retirement system, or payments to a fund or insurer to provide an income for retirees, or payment to retirees or their beneficiaries. No such retirement benefits shall be negotiated pursuant to this article, and any benefits so negotiated shall be void. "

  • It's from an alternate world... "what if idiots ran the news"

  • i work on wall street and normal bustling lunch time rush was completely dead down here, save a few tourists. telecommuting must be a great thing..... i wish i knew what it was like instead of dreading my 1.5 hour walk home.
