None More Amusing: SNL Narnia Rap Video

2005_12_narniarap1.jpg

For the last 24 hours we've been deluged with requests to track down Chris Parnell's "Lazy Sunday Afternoon" video (AKA "The Narnia Rap"). It can be found at YouTube, and it is indeed the funniest thing SNL has put up in about five years. A quick transcription of the lyrics:

Lazy Sunday wake up in the late afternoon
call Parnell just to see how he's doing
hello what up pas! yo sandburg, whats rocking?
you thinking what i'm thinking? narnia! then it's happening!
But first, my hunger pangs are sticking like duct tape
let's hit up magnolia and mack on some cupcakes
No doubt, that bakery's got all the bomb frosting.
i love those cupcakes like mcadams loves gosling
2 no 6 no 12, bakers dozen!
i told you that i'm crazy for these cupcakes, cousin!
yo wheres the movie playing? upper west side dude!
let's hit up yahoo maps to find the dopest route.
i prefer mapquest! that's a good one too.
googlemaps is the best! true that! double true!
68th and broadway step on it sucker!
what you want to do chris? snack attack, motherfcuker!
what the chronic(les!) of narnia!
we love that chronic(les!) of narnia!
pass that chronic(les!) of narnia!
yo stop at the deli, the theatre is overpriced!
you got that backpack? i'm going to pack it up nice.
we don't want security to get suspicious!
mr pibbs plus red vines equals crazy delicious.
reach in my pocket and pull out some dough
girl acted like she never seen a $10 before!
it's all about the hamiltons baby
throw the snacks in a bag and i'm ghost like swayze.
roll up to the theate ticket buying what we're handling,
Call us Aaron Burr from the way we're dropping hamiltons
in our seats movie trivia is the illest!
question: what friends star starred in a movie with bruce willis?
we answered so fast it was scary:
everyone stared at us when we screamed matthew perry!
quiet in the theatre or else it'll get tragic
we're about to be taken to a dream world of magic
what the chronic(les!) of narnia! (repeats)
we love that chronic(les!) of narnia!
pass that chronic(les!) of narnia!

Is Magnolia the go-to place for rapping comedians who love CS Lewis?

And did anyone see the Chronic-les?

Mr. Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy Delicious!

I found a downloadable Quicktime mp4 version and posted a link to it on my site. http://orangehat.org/archives/2005/12/18/snl_lazy_sunday_video.php

What a way to usher out 2005 SNL style.

That was the funniest white comedic rap I have seen in a long long time.

Thanks for posting that Gem of a find!

I'm glad SNL still has some good talent. Maybe I should start watching again...

"i love those cupcakes like macadams love joclyn"

I'm pretty sure it's "mcadams loves gosling"
[Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling in The Notebook]

Also, "call us eric berg from the way we're dropping hamiltons." is "Call us Aaron Burr from the way we're dropping hamiltons." Because Burr killed Hamilton.

Brilliant!

Line 5 s/b "But first, my hunger pangs are sticking like duct tape"

And line 7 is "No doubt, that bakery's got all the bomb frosting."

i fixed the "pibbs", "gosling" and "aaron burr" references-- and lines 5 and 7. any other corrections?

Line 16 should be

"what you want to do chris? snack attack, Mother*ucker!"

Come on guys. Censoring kills it

What about Robert Smigels' "Christmas Time for the Jews" cartoon? That was great, too.

This cracked me up too.

I think the chorus was more like "It's the Chonic - WHAT? (les) of Narnia" -- I seem to remember the "WHAT?" being in there.

one minor: Sandburg is actually "Samberg", as in Andy Samberg. Best white rapper ever who has also played a half-man/half-hotdog.

Thank you so much for finding this! As soon as I saw it Saturday I knew I had to find a copy. Andy Samberg is the best - he was SO funny in that alien sketch with Jack Black. That was him, right? Anyway, he's awesome and I hope SNL puts him in lots of sketches.

Easily the best thing in ages on SNL. Someone sign those two up for a comedy/music project. I know Parnell has had some other funny musical moments.. but this one takes the (cup)cake.

that was awesome. such hardcore cupcake eating. and the yelling of "what!" after chronic is a great touch.

Anyone have a link to the Brokeback Mining sketch from two weeks ago?

I NEED an MP3 of this track. Anyone know of one?

-MikeB

The past 3-4 episodes of SNL have been damned funnier than it's been in years. Parnell's raps have been funny, but just a tad weird in placement. This 'Lazy Sunday' sketch was beyond belief and beyong hillarious. Two white guys rapping about going to see Narnia and eating cupcakes from Magnolia. How gay can be? Something must have happened on the writing staff to bring back the funny.

And let's not forget the TV Funhouse "Christmas Time for the Jews"

White people never get tired of seeing white people rap. I've never understood it. I saw this short on Saturday night and changed the channel mid-song thinking, "Man, Saturday Night Live blows these days." It must be like when I hear George Lopez say, "Why you crying?" in his standup routine and I laugh my ass off cuz he has that Chicano inflection down so well. And I think, "No one who isn't Mexican-American could ever understand why that's funny." (And NO I don't think his sitcom is funny. It seriously blows.) That's what's going on for me and this video. Except, I'm pretty sure I get why you think it's funny, but it's just not that funny.

As soon as I saw like the first 30 seconds of the video I knew this had to be the Lonely Island guys doing. Which it was. Check out http://www.thelonelyisland.com, Andy (who I always thought was "Ardy" anyway) is part of the group of 3 guys (the other 2 write for SNL now). I've known about them since 2002; they are some crazy guys. And if you liked that video there is a lot more of that stuff there.

The reason the writing seems so much better this season (as far as skits like this are concerned) is directly related to the new guy Andy Samberg. I find Samberg totally hilarious. He and two of his friends have been around on the internet for years and are known as the Lonely Island. http://thelonelyisland.com

Samberg joined the cast, and the other two guys, Akiva and Jorma, joined the writing staff. This skit as well as the lettuce and taco town skits definitely have their touch to them. It's great to see SNL recognize their talent and give them a chance.

One more correction

"Everyone stared IN AWE as we screamed Matthew Perry".

Thanks!

Here's the mp3 for whoever wants it, I just ripped it from the video and uploaded it.

mp3:
http://s46.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0BGI86LOVREL909LF8RQVZETAI

Line 3 I think is "What up Pars" (Chris Parnell).

Absolutely inspired!

line 3: what's cracking, not what's rockin.

Rocking doen't rhyme with happening so good.

You can download this video for free on the iTunes music store!!

Hey. I just wanted to tell you guys about this site: www.cafepress.com/crazydelicious1 , that sells shirts featuring a reference to this rap. Thanks.

Chris is an amazing comedian, and his raps are for laughs, but also great material! The SNL sketch reminds me of a rap group, i think Parnell got the structure from that group, i just dont know what artist it is. Does anybody recollect what rap group i he might have gotten his rap from(the way they moved, and rap)?

It's good that the guys from Awesometown (thelonelyisland.com) are on SNL (Jorma and Akiva are writers, and Andy Samburg acting). They are making that show funny again. Some of their stuff is already being used, like the alien sketch.

and I think it's "What up Parns?"

Just a quick correction on the lyrics, if you care to update them.

The lyrics are divided between who sings what.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

one of my favorite music videos is Just 2 Guyz

ya its Chronic(WHAT!)cles of Narnia
but i love that!

For the chorus it's

"Hit the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia, yes the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia, we love the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia, pass the Chronic-WHAT-cles of Narnia."

Easily the funniest SNL skit since the "More Cowbell" in 2000...and bosteis is 100% correct with the lyrics

my band is covering 'Just 2 Guyz' and i wanted to know if anyone had the lyrics/tableture for it. many thanks.
