Camera in the Kitchen: Miracle Grill

miracle_2.jpg

Much to Gothamist's dismay, last week Miracle Grill, the East Village brunch & garden gem, closed its cantina doors for one last time, one of many restaurants to fold for mysterious reasons despite reliable clientele and a faithful brunch crowd. Serving a range of Southwest fare: empanadas, catfish tacos, BBQ shrimp, and chorizo quesadillas--the joint (and garden!) will sorely be missed. BUT, thank goodness for one small miracle: there are sister locations in Park Slope and on Bleecker Street. Here, you can still swell up on the sweetness of blood-orange margeritas, and nosh on chilaquiles 'til the sun comes up.

Miracle Grill's remaining locations can be found at 222 7th Avenue at 3rd St. in Park Slope (718-369-4541) and at 415 Bleecker St. b/w Bank & W. 11th in the W. Village (212-924-1900).

no, the issue was that amazing garden -- they paid rent on it year-round but couldn't use it for about 4 months a year -- and they were just losing too much money during the winter. the owner (lyn, wife of stu of late lamented stooz records down the street) said an 'american bistro' is taking over the space -- whatever that means, and as if we needed another one. very sad -- the staff at the 1st ave miracle grill were always wonderful... we'll miss them, and the great brunches in the garden...

I have to second the review of the service at the Park Slope location. Every time I go there, it's as if they don't want my business. My friends have had similar experiences. It's hard to get someone to take your order and no one follows up. The hostess tells you the wait as if she doesn't want you to be there. I guess it's a good strategy. The more people she pisses off the less time people will have to wait. The food is just okay and certainly not good enough to warrant a less-than-pleasant service experience.

Shame to see the East Village one go, coz it had a great back garden, but the one in Park Slope sucks. Our food was cold and our staff were surly.

and if you go to the one in Park Slope, don't expect great service.

every time I end up in the area on a weekend morning, I tend to end up there with my friends, for some reason, and there never fails to be a negative experience.

That mysterious reason is called higher rent in a relatively low margin business.
