I found this intresting Park Slope Reader article on the crash. It is a very sad story.
The title you are looking for for the "brooklyn eagle magazine" is the Brooklyn Daily Eagle.
It was a daily newspaper published for 114 years, but only the issues from 1841-1902 have been digitized and made available through the Brooklyn Public Library website.
