This kind of weather makes us want to do one thing, and one thing only: walk through the snow filled streets with a hot chocolate in one hand and John Cusack in the other. Mmm...serendipitous. Reality, however, will leave us with wet jean cuffs as we trudge through dirty (and oft yellow) snow. But at least we'll be on the way to something fun. Here are some suggestions to get you out of the house this weekend:

ART: Gypsy punk rockers Gogol Bordello and the southern punk band Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers will be amongst those included in the first ever PodART exhibit. Fine Art in Space and 31Grand Art Gallery present an exhibition of video art to be viewed and sold exculsively on the iPod (*cough* marketing scam *cough*). The art-friendly Apple is the inspiration for the new exhibition. In recent years, video art has been growing rapidly in popularity, and the latest video iPod has just made it more portable.

2005_12_arts_podart.jpgPodART will feature the work of visual artists Jason Clay Lewis, Nelson Loskamp, MTAA, Marisa Olson, Eugenio Percossi, Jean Pigozzi, Adam Stennett, Lee Walton, and Jeff Wyckoff as well as videos from Gogol Bordello and Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers. Each video object is a limited edition and is sold in iPod format with the player. At Right: “EVERYTHING TASTES BETTER WHEN YOU ARE BLIND”, 2005, DVD, iPod edit, 9 minutes 56 seconds.

The Opening Reception is TONIGHT from 7 to 9pm (running through January 17) // Gallery Hours: Monday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm // Fine Art in Space [10-47 48th Avenue, Long Island City, NY]

AEROSOL ART: Who's N.Y.C.E. (that's New York City's Elite) is having it's opening reception tonight. This show is all about unification within the Aerosol (Graffiti) Culture. Banding together against certain Public Officials and NY's Finest, they say, "Don't let us be Policed."

Tonight (runs through December 30th) // Opening reception from 6-10pm // The HAVEN Arts Gallery [235 E. 141st St, Bronx]

MOVIE: We don't care who you are, or which way you swing. There is only ONE movie worth seeing this weekend. And that is the movie that includes Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal making sweet, sweet cowboy love. Brokeback Mountain opens tonight, but stay at home if you are only there to snicker at two boys making out, this movie is about much more than that. And we plan on finding out exactly what that is.

Opens tonight // Various Locations and Times // $10.50

PARTY: As the website says, this is NOT your bubbe's chanukah party! Unless, of course, your bubbe knows Jane's Addiction (in which case, we suggest you visit more often!) With a stellar roster of Jewish artists headlining a concert produced by young Jews, for young Jews (and those who love them). This is the first annual Jewcy Chanukah, and is poised to become a new holiday tradition for New Yorkers seeking something more “Jewcy” than dreidel-spinning contests or Matzoh Balls.

Starring the Semitic talents of: Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction), Triumph the Insult Comic Dog (Late Night with Conan O'Brien), Rachel Dratch (SNL), Princess Superstar, Todd Barry, Eric Drysdale (The Daily Show) and more! Yeah, that'll get us to go to the Meatpacking District.

Sunday // 7pm // Crobar [530 W 28th St] // $25
