New York Remembers John Lennon

2005_12_artsimagine.jpgFor the past 25 years fans have descended upon Central Park's Strawberry Fields to remember John Lennon on the anniversary of his death. By now, we all know the story...Lennon was gunned down by a deranged fan (Mark David Chapman) just near his home (the Dakota) on the night of December 8th, 1980. Chapman is now eligable for parole next year.

Today, like every year, fans have already been visiting the site since the early morning hours, and will continue to throughout the day. A moment of silence will be held at both the time he was shot (10:50 pm) and his time of death (11:15pm). People have been protesting the 1am curfew of the park on this night for several years, however, authorities still plan to stick to the curfew tonight.

Related: Last month we discussed Bob Gruen's book on Lennon's New York years, the book comes out today.
