Brightliner, you totally hit the nail on the head.

A year or so ago, the Discovery Channel did a series called Extreme Engineering which had an episode called Subways in America (mostly about our subway). It was directed and produced with all those hyped up edits and KTU dance music. It had it's moments of oohing and aahing, but was mostly, as you might say, an ADHD affair.

If any of you want to know about GCT, watch Seven Secrets of Grand Central (great show) on PBS for free. And if you want to watch the most comprehensive subway documentary ever then check out Subway: Empire Beneath New York's Streets

It seems to be the "style" nowadays. Especially on the smaller cable channels like NGC, Discovery and Travel. Choppy editing, sped up video and constant, inane, drum-heavy "music" are the order of the day. I don't know if it's because the directors were raised as part of the MTV generation or they're trying to target an audience with symtoms of ADHD. I hope it never reaches PBS and Nova.

Macreator, I'm totally with you. My fiance & I just watched it, and kept saying,"Didn't we just see that?"...The editing was so choppy.

On another note, though, we saw the MTA spokesperson from the documentary (the guy with the thick-framed glasses) on the news (not sure what channel) just after 10 pm talking about tomorrow's snow storm, so that was kinda cool.

I must say, I was really dissapointed by this show. I can't watch the last half hour. I must have seen the same clips of video, and heard the same statistics repeated 100 times throughout the show.

It's like they spent all the cash on fancy graphics and didn't spend any on actually making a good show.

Two Thumbs down from me :(

There is an article in this month's National Geographic about GCT, it is the featured zipcode of the month (10017). There are some really interesting photos and quotes from various workers.

There is the very good Seven Secrets of Grand Central which airs every now and then on WNYE, and I recall seeing it once on WNET. The latest Secrets of New York on WNYE featured FDR's secret platform and elevator in and what may have been the train car that was used to transport his armored limo.

This has been on before and it is great. Highlights, the secret track and elevator for FDR's limo and the whisper gallery outside the Oyster Bar.

Now now... Not all people who use the LIRR are from Long Island. I take it all the time from Queens.

Don't equate us with those savages.
