Meirelles and Weisz Show Up With Gardener in Queens

2005_09_movieguide_gardner.jpgWhen The Constant Gardener came out at over Labor Day weekend, we instantly called it one of the year's best. We'll stand by that judgment, and although the film has departed from general release nor will it be available on DVD until Jan. 10, if you haven't seen it, we enthusiastically suggest you make your way out to Astoria tonight for a 7:30 PM special screening at Museum of the Moving Image. But we wouldn't tell you to trek to Queens and spend $12 ($8 for MMI members) just to see a movie that you could otherwise be Netflixing in about six weeks. We would tell you to trek and pay, however, for something Netflix can't give you (at least not yet; who knows what those whacky DVD renters are cooking up next): director Fernando Meirelles and star Rachel Weisz live and in person. And don't worry, they won't just wave at you and leave. They'll both be around after the screening for one of MMI's notable Pinewood Dialogues. If the director and star can brave a night in Queens, why can't you? For more information, visit the MMI website or call 718/784-4520.

Actually, this movie's a compete dud. Thanks for playing, though!

Brave Queens??
Classy Aaron, classy.

I live steps away from the Museum and am a member, so I frequent screenings and Pinewood Dialogues. They are a good time and well worth "braving Queens".

I quite like it here, thank you. It's really easy to get to and we only rape and pillage after 3:00 AM.

Oh you fools...this isn't about Queens. Have a little bit of respect for a beautifully shot, searing indictment of the global pharmaceuticals industry starring two of the finest and most sincere actors out there. The fact that the director and Weisz are attending is most noteworthy.

Rachel was great in the film, but the searing indictment element is just window dressing for what is at root a TV movie of the week more suitable for Alan Thicke and Marilou Henner. Will probably win an oscar in the most retarded ending of the year category.

I'd go just to meet Rachel Weisz. I wonder if she's as hot in personal?
