Ah, Quinnipiac University, how we love your polling department. All through the year you give us great political polls, and come winter, you turn to more off-beat questions. For instance: do New Yorkers love New York City, just like it, sort of want to hold hands with it, or totally think it has the cooties:
New York City voters love their city more than ever, with 61 percent who say they "love" New York, 22 percent who say the "like" New York, 15 percent with mixed feelings and 1 percent who say they "hate" the city, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.Prior polls by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University show the love factor ranging from a low of 46 percent June 3, 1999, to a high of 59 percent November 25, 2002.
A total of 75 percent of New Yorkers are "very satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied" with the way things are going in the city, just short of the 76 percent satisfaction rate February 11, 1998. The lowest satisfaction rate was 30 percent July 2, 2003.
Interestingly, when you look at the full results, Republicans seem to be more enthusiastic about New York than Democrats-- and white folk like New York more than blacks or hispanics. Other facts: people in Staten Island like the city more than people in Manhattan, and men like NYC more than women!

I'm not sure why you said that about the Reps being more enthusiastic than the Dmes. When I looked at the informations it said the opposite:
Tot Rep Dem
Love 61% 57%
Like 22 27
Mixed 15 13
i'd be surprised if republicans really are "more enthusiastic" about new york than democrats. i mean, the city is full of the things that repubs hate: minorities, gays, liberals, americans, new yorkers, public transportation... the list goes on.
I think Republicans like it because they're the ones who can afford to live here. If I had a nice apartment in a good neighborhood and could afford fancy bars and restaurants, I'd be pretty enthusiastic too.
are the wealthier people in nyc primarily republican? manhattan went something like 85% for john kerry in 2004. people in media, fashion, celebs, etc., tend to be democrats. as best as i know, it's only people in the financial industries who tend to be 'pubby.
