There's nothing like losing an election by 20 points to a billionaire incumbent mayor who outrageously overspent you to make you upset. Fernando Ferrer complained in El Diario that the news media and polling organizations helped bury him, making some people wonder if he's got a bad case of the sour grapes. Ferrer claims that reporters didn't take notes during his press conferences and polls were too concerned with huge margin Bloomberg had on him. Plus, the October 6 subway terror alert took attention away from the debate that Bloomberg never attended. The NY Times points out that Ferrer did "not place blame on himself at any point in the El Diario interview," but of course the Times would do that - the Times endorsed Bloomberg! We can't blame Ferrer for being incredibly bitter, but blaming the Post for running a pre-election cover that implied it was over for him is way too easy. Democratic strategist Joseph "Geraldine Who?" Mercurio thinks Ferrer should blame his own team, for not having a strong enough "anti-Bloomberg message."
Plus Ferrer still has some campaign debt to take care of, which led to his email plea to supporters (via The Daily Transom) to donate to his war chest. Naturally, the Post is outraged about this, as it will mean taxpayers will keep paying for Ferrer's campaign, since funds are matched.

Ferrer claims that reporters didn't take notes during his press conferences.
Perhaps they were bored into inattentiveness.
It couldn't possibly have been due to the fact that Bloomberg actually does good things for every borough of the city, could it? Nah. It was definitely the Post headline.
ferrer was a lousy candidate, but dont kid yourself that bloomberg did great things for the city. take a look a tthe proof here: http://truthonbloomberg.org
Thank you, a. The media practically threw rose petals at the feet of our very own C. Montgomery Burns as he marched unopposed to victory? Bloomberg's record is horrible. Don't ecpect any change any time soon since a majority of the city's white voters last backed a Democrat for mayor 20 years ago.
Waaaaah!
Pathetic - Freddie is was and always will be a loser - He'll blame everyone but himself for getting killed (he even lost among hispanics).
The simple reason he lost is that things in the city are going ok (sorry janine but you have to measure Bloomberg compared to OTHER NYC mayors and by that comparison he is FAR from horrible) and Ferrer offered ZERO that realistically that would make a difference.
Freddie is so shameless he'll probably run again in '09
I'm talking more than anything about how the media slept on the whole campaign. People would probably come to the same conclusions, that doesn't make it rude to bring up next year's $4 billion budget gap, for example.
Also making a point about the laziness of the press, I brought up the statistic about white voters because that's a trend that's being widely ignored while people of color are being given patronizing taps on the head in the post election coverage for not voting on the basis of race. Where is the article that points out racial voting blocks aren't the sole property of minorities?
Besides, all politics are local and I have a personal bone to pick for cuts to the police force up in Washington Heights.
Oh, and thanks for not poining out the typos.
I meant poinTing
Freddy is a sore loser. He should just shut up since he lost.
The most despicable allegation is his allusions to the terror warning for NYC subway being politically motivated- he (now or in the past) won't actually make the charge, he'll just try to plant the seed of doubt. Which is exactly why he is a ball-less loser.
In reality there appears to be no substance to his charge since it was revealed that Homeland Security officials were leaking reports of the threat to their NY freinds and families a week prior. BUT what I would love to have is an 'alternative universe machine' cause I'd bet BIG money that had those leaks been revealed PRIOR to Bloomberg alerting the public - Freddie would have campaigned on how Republican cronies all got warnings and Bloomberg held the information back from "the other NY"
Thank you, Freddie, for reminding me why I didn't vote for you, you unlikeable douchebag.
Freddy, please exit stage left. The fact that he simply expected hispanics to support him because of his heritage just shows how clueless he really was. He is a relic of old machine politics; hopefully that era is coming to a close.
