Gaga for Bloomby

Just days after trouncing Fernando Ferrer in the mayoral election, Mike Bloomberg's approval rating is at an all time high. A new Quinnipiac poll has Mayor Bloomberg's approval rating at 75%! 3 in 4 New Yorkers approve of Bloomberg, we wouldn't have known by reading reader comments on this site. The approval rating is close to the high of 79% set by Rudy Giuliani after 9/11. Clearly, a lot of the feelings can be attributed to a post-election bounce especially considering all the advertisements he ran before the election touting his record. This rating comes two and a half years after getting the lowest rating ever for a mayor, with only 31% of the city approving his performance. The poll also revealed that 4 out of 5 voters believe that Bloomberg and not Governor George Pataki should control Ground Zero.

I'll be the first to step up to the plate and make a positive comment for Bloomberg. I think he did a great job in his first term, and I can only imagine the job he will do now that he is free of the getting reelected pressure. I'm looking forward to all the fantastic projects I'm sure he has up his sleeves for NYC!

It's 75% now, but wait until everyone remembers he's a Republican. It'll drop like a rock.

Personally, I'm on Bloomie's bandwagon for good. I'm hoping that he becomes one of the all time great NYC mayors. The man is on a streak right now, and I hope he keeps it going...

Nope.. I still think he's a fascist. He hate cyclists, that's enough reason for me to hate him.

Actually, he's not a fascist. Mussolini was a fascist. He's a mayor with some guy on his staff that probably hates cyclists. If Bloomberg actually thinks about them much during his day-to-day, I'd be surprised. The guy lets his commissioners work independently.

Give me a break. Last year, did ANY of us walk around New York whistling about how amazing and great it was? Read my lips: ADVERTISING WORKS. Take a look at your iPod, your can of Coca Cola and your Cingular cell phone and tell me I'm wrong.

3 out of 4 New Yorkers say Bloomberg should control Ground Zero. These 3 out of 4 people forgot that Bloomberg pretty much handed ground zero control straight to Pataki long ago (and thus the LMDC was formed). Since then, Bloomberg has done pretty much nothing. Take a look at the gaping hole at ground zero and tell me I'm wrong.

Bloomberg's record simply touts the status quo. He kept New York from falling into ruin, but he did NOT make the city much better. Barring 9/11, the city's pretty much the same as when Giuliani left. Take a look around the city and tell me I'm wrong.

You obviously don't have kids in the public schools, which are appreciably better for having been placed under mayoral control. You've never placed a call to 311. You've never tried to obtain information from a city agency, all of which are now responsive to requests in a way they never were before Bloomberg imposed a customer service ethic on municipal government.

Bloomberg never had a chance at controlling the LMDC or redevelopment of the World Trade Center because the Port Authority is a bi-state agency over which the city has no control (remember--the WTC buildings didn't have to meet New York City's fire code regulations because they were controlled by the PA).

Gee whiz, it's not Bloomberg's job to control Ground Zero, and he has no control, so we should let him off the hook!

He has clout, which should count for something. Just because it's not in his job description, doesn't mean we should just accept the fact that he hasn't even bothered *trying* to get Ground Zero up to speed. Now THAT's something he has control over. He dropped the ball a long time ago.

Actually, I was walking around last year singing his praises. One word (or number combination before someone calls me on it): 311. I'm sure I'm not alone in my appreciation.

You can prove anything with polls, as they are not scientific. Sure, they may be mathematically sound, but are little more than a survey of some random people. Ask the right group of random people and you can get the answers you want or if you rig the questions the right way. I seem to recall a Yes Prime Minister episode that explained why polls are really meaningless, but the public thinks they are really meaningful.

And as for Bloomberg, you gotta love 311 and he knows the state and/or the PA will royally screw up at the WTC site. I still like Trump's idea of rebuilding the twin towers, but bigger.
