A Small Corner of Paved Heaven

2005_11_13th6th.jpgThe Tomato Diaries' Sally Tomato emailed us to say that the infernal corner of constant construction at West 13th Street and 6th Avenue was finally paved. Sure, the rest of the street looks like "a car bomb" happened there, which means construction workers will be there for a while, but for anyone who attends the New School, goes to the Urban Outfitters or xando or Quad, or simply walks in that part of town, it reminds you that years and years of work can bring back a glistening.sidewalk, ripe for gum and future cracking.

It's not Xando anymore, I think because people couldn't figure out whether to pronounce it Zando or X and O.

that's awesome! i wonder when they'll finish my block (13th between 6th and 7th).

Rest assured there is still a year of work going on here, including a 100 hour test of the fans installed below ground, which I am sure will not bother anyone with the noise.

There is also the matter of the many trees destroyed on 13th Street, either by being removed or having their roots cut underground.

Speaking of cuts, no on in the area has had any reliable telephone service for the past three years thanks to this construction...
