Alamo is Back? Time to Party!

Alamo is Back? Time to Party!!

If all has gone as planned, the Alamo cube should have returned to Astor Place at precisely 8am today. Has anyone been by to see it in person?

Update: mystery! Word is that the cube has not yet arrived! Where could it be? Developing...

Update: Matt Levy, who was planning on throwing an absurdly meta-party at the cube at 4pm (with people dressing up as Mexicans, Cowboys, and Cubist painters... you know, b/c it's the "Alamo"] reports: "Alamo by Tony Rosenthal, has not yet been returned to Astor Place. Therefore, we here at Action Direction Creations find it preposterous to stand around a blank spot of cement eating black cube cake and singing happy returns. SO THE PARTY HAS BEEN POSTPONED! Until the actual sculpture is returned to us, the good citizens of Gotham City. Hold onto your party hats and cubist outfits until further notice. Sorry for the late communique, but things have been insane lately.

Things have been insane indeed! Where is the cube? Our readers demand to know.

cube is definitely not there... but it looks like they're building (?) a garden/grassy area of sorts next to the "undulating" building at astor place.

why don't you call the parks dept to see what's up?

the intelligencer column about the return says: "The Parks Department says that Alamo will be back by the end of the month. Schaefer says that the last he’d heard it was going to be picked up November 14. It’ll be driven to the city and later lowered into place by a “boom truck.”
It’ll take two hours, and they’ll do it before 8 a.m.,” he says. So for late-rising downtowners, its return will be as miraculous as its departure."

I take this to mean that that Alamo would be picked up on Nov 14th from its hiding place, but not necessarily put back until after that, sometime by the end of the month. When it does happen, though, it will be before 8am.
lets keep our fingers crossed on this one!

matt levy?! i saw that cat dancing at the free spoon show at castle clinton three summers ago! been wondering what he's been up to...

the cube in ann arbor was especially nice when naked people would spin on it. no longer though, no longer.

Once, I had a dream that the Cube had been painted like a Rubik's Cube and everyone was twisting it. I thought the dream was real and was very disappointed when I saw the Cube the next day.

definitely no cube - but ugh - Xmas lights are lit today!!!

definitely no cube as of this evening- but ugh - Xmas lights are lit today!!!

i would definitely participate in a party for the Cube, so when it does show up up, bring on the sombreros!

Check out www.east-village.com/cube. This is a petition someone started to get the Cube back to Astor Place...check it out. its pretty cool

The cube is so overrated. Let it stay in its undisclosed location.
