Religious Candle Comes in Handy, But Robber's Murderer Still at Large
An attempted crime wrapped in another crime: The other day, we were reading about a botched bodega robbery in East Flatbush, where the robber threatened the owners with a gun but somehow ended up getting fatally shot, but not by the owners. The owners and brothers, Odalis Arias and Pofirio Marte, were inside their store when Ryan Walters, accompanied by two other men, demanded their money. Marte was forced to lie on the floor, leaving Arias to hit Walter with a heavy candle. Then Arias got shot in the arm, so Marte got up and hit Walters with an empty soda crate. When Walters made it out to the street, he was greeted by 16 rounds from a .45 caliber gun! Police aren't sure who shot Walters yet; early suspicions are that his accomplices may have killed him.
