Bank Shot

2005_11_smoore.jpgThe Rangers were losing 3-2 with six seconds left in the game when Dominic Moore got the puck behind the net. With no one to pass to, Moore did the only thing he could, try and bank the puck off of a player and hope for the best. The best happened as the puck deflected off of Jay Bouwmeester and into the net to force overtime and earn the Rangers a lucky point. No one could score in overtime so the game went a shootout where Petr Prucha scored the winning goal for the Rangers and gave them their second point of the night.

The Rangers were consistently on the defensive throughout the game, taking eleven penalties to the Panthers’ six, but were bailed out by their goaltending. Henrik Lundqvist was stellar in the nets for the Rangers, making 38 saves during the game and not allowing the Panthers to score in the shootout.

After seventeen games the Rangers are a surprising 9-5-3, good for 21 points and first place in the Atlantic Division. They are in the midst of a five-game road trip and play again tonight against Tampa Bay.
