According to www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htm each year there are 17,000 deaths from all illegal drug use combined, direct and indirect.

No doubt the 17,000 illegal drug deaths are tragic, but this pales in comparison to the 365,000 deaths from poor diets or physical inactivity.

Speaking of poor diets, notice that we have no illegal foods, even though many foods are very unhealthy--especially if consumed in large portions over several years.

Perhaps we should criminalize a long list of potentially unhealthy foods--for our own good, of course. Think of all the government careers this would create.

No doubt unhealthy food prohibition would be just as successful as our alcohol and drug prohibition.

Believe me, I’m not the anti marijuana/jail all hippies type. I’m just not sure making it more readily available the way alcohol is is such a good idea.

Let’s just say my Faith in most Americans to embrace and use pot responsibly, like they have in such a SWELL way with alcohol is lacking. And opening the flood gates to a pot extravaganza might not be the best option to take.

It is morons like Kojak why ANIMAL put professor Jeff Miron on the cover of our new issue. He wants the goverment to tax and regulate marijuana like we do other drugs, namely cigarettes and alcohol. To still believe the "marjuana as the gateway drug theory" is more of a issue of nostalgia for jr. high health class then demonstrating some actual up to date knowledge on the subject. I hate to be such a spammer, but go to www.animalnewyork.com and click READ THE REPORT now.
This Harvard Professor should be able to straighten people like Kojak out with godspeed.

Kojack, there is no sound evidence that says marijuana use turns "brains to putty" or makes people any more or less intellegent than they already are.

Sure, it's possible that making it legal might lead to an increase in usage for a period of time.

Even so, is it really preferable to spend billions of dollars to arrest and incarcerate people for it? There's a strong case to be made for ways to spend that more effectively, and for incarceration being far more damaging to a person's health and wellbeing than smoking marijuana.

The government arrests about 800,000 people for pot law violations each year, many of whom are otherwise law-abiding citizens. Yet it's just as readily available as ever, and use rates hold fairly constant.

Sounds like Freedumb to me.

"If anything is to be called idiotic here, it is the government's prohibition on marijuana."

You can’t legalize marijuana in this country. If they suddenly legalized pot, the effects would be staggering. I assure you every College, HS, and JHS kid will smoke it to the point where their brains would be turned to putty and their collective IQ’s would approach the levels of the retarded.

Americans by nature are gluttons. Most of us don’t know the meaning of the word moderation. We can’t possibly loosen the rules on it here without dire consequences.

Wow. Just looking at that picture makes me high.

I hope that’s not high quality. This definitely will put a crimp on supply resulting in higher prices. =(

This is how most of these retards get caught. They fail to follow the traffic laws and get stopped.
