Interior Design Porn: New York Yacht Club

New York Yacht Club, photograph by Walter Dufresne

Walter Dufresne has some wonderful high-resolution pictures of the interior of the New York Yacht Club up on 44th Street. We're not normally big interior design buffs, but a room this cool-looking demands closer study. Check out that wallpaper-- it's got little boats on it! The rooms are incredibly symmetrical, and the ceilings are a wonder to behold. Definitely well worth a long-look-- and if you want more, check out the 3D tour on the NYYC site.

  • The wallpaper is really stunning.. Even the wall is behind fireplace, the wallpaper is the first thing that I noticed.

that room is amazing. the windows in that room bow out onto 44th st. as if one is on lord nelson's ship or something. it's also filled with nifty model ships. one of my favorite rooms in the city.

I do hang my head in shame. But soon, with the GOP hard at work, we will have our armies of non-unionized poorly paid immigrant quasi slave labor and we can get back to building palaces for the rich and their hobbies. Yeah.

Sheetrock and dry wall cost big money (especially since asbestos suits have shattered the major gyp suppliers). Not the arcitect's fault that all craftsmen are gone, everyting is beyond expensive (especially in NYC) and clients are cheap (hell it is a 30 year mortgage- if it is still standing after 30 years you are losing money).

But I will say that my firm went out of its way to protect the Tiffany skylight in that room while we were building out hotel next door. It is a fantastic room.

Thats not wallpaper, those are models called "Half Hulls" that are hung on the wall.

Today's achitects should hang their heads in shame, they really don't make'em like they used to. So called "luxury" buildings these days are made with sheet rock and aluminum framing, cheap veneers and laminates. Bring back the pre-war construction and materials!
