City and Country

2005_11_countrytakesnyc.jpgUm, we knew that city was very excited about the Country Music Awards coming to New York City, since even Mayor Bloomberg put on a cowboy hat last year. But who would have thought the city would take a page from Thundercut's walk signal pedestrian mashup book and create a country walking man "The County Takes New York City" banners? (cityrag is outraged.) However, we are impressed that the city's marketing team was able to make sure cowboy boots were this fall's faddy footwear.

The awards will be on November 15, and in the days leading up to the Tuesday night performance, the city will have a ton of events, from "Culinary Day" on November 9 (discounts, restaurants will play country music) to "Education Day" (country singers will put music to lyrics by NYC public school student, a recital). Here's the city's press release about "Country Takes New York City Week". And is it just Gothamist or do male country music superstars dress really gay?

Isn't this pandering to people who enjoy convincing politicians to take away certian rights like Women's Right to Choose, Calling someone "Un-American" for not supporting the choice to go to war in Iraq. Racism, Homophobia,Religious Intolerance. These yahoo Rednecks should be shown the door or bridge and tunnel and told to bring their B.S Patriotic crap to some two bit town in Arkansas. The people of NYC should be ashamed these people are in our city.

Yes, I HATE those Southerners! They're ALL so intolerant.

WTF?

The big names in mainstream country music might champion the red state mentality, but comments like this one reflect pretty poorly on the you, Frank.

D'oh! It is an unwritten law that any time one criticizes someone else's typos, one must make a typo in doing so.

i second the proofreading request. i would be more than willing to do this for gothamist, jen. you can contact me at aks313 AT nyu DOT edu.

And to think that this past fourth of July celebration here in Boston has a country music theme. They're invading. Plus, does it make sense to have a country music award show in a city that is one of the few markets in the U.S. that doesn't have a country music radio station?

come on, you're all over thinking this, who cares, good for country music. First of all, all the hipsters on this site must of forgot that some of the bands that get written up as must sees are southern (country influenced), such as The Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, and Mr. Johnny Cash.

oh and Ryan Adams, yeah ha red states, please
