Walk Sign Man Escapes!

Walk Sign Man Escapes!

Joe caught a good picture of our favorite downtown sign-- it's on the corner of Varick and King Street. The sign is for a copy shop, and shows the little guy running towards their store. [For more streetsign fun, checkout some Thundercut stencils.]

Update-- Gothamist reader David sent us a more recent photo of the sign-- this is totally awesome:

The second photo is a fake you can tell from the photo shop brush marks... sorry to ruin it

yeah, totally photoshopped.

Should of used the history brush or the clone stamp to blend the wooden sign texture over the last dotted figure. Then place the images over it.

Hey nyer,

It's not fashionable for these people to actually sound like they're from the Metro area.

Just imagine a rich prissy kid from the Midwest or New England going to school in the city - they have as much respect for the "townies" as kids at other college towns. Of course, the townies here happen to be people from the city (and to a lesser extent New Jersey and LI - they can't tell the difference anyway, even if they try to steal all our jokes in an effort to "fit in").

before you jump to conclusions, i'd do a little research: jen and i both went to public schools, os you can stick your townies theory up your a$$. you might think new yorkers can't be enthusiastic about things, but we disagree. buzz off.

Whoopsie! Everyone: I just sent that as a joke to a friend who had forwarded the pic to me. It took all of 3 seconds and was not intended to hoax anyone. If I HAD wnated to fool you, I would have. Wink, wink!

It's so refreshing to see that rampant annoymous posters and bullshit commentours are rampant across all the internet and not just on splay. Now kids I'm all for free speech and stuff but when you post, put a name, it def. fosters more responsibility and better commenting. Tell ya the truth I don't know how Jen or Jake put up with some of you nitpicking ninnies.

I didn't mean you Jake or Jen, just the types of people these days who look at you like dirt on the street if you have anything resembling an accent from this area - you know, the type of person who says things like " Damn B&T crowd!!" even though they're not from this area and have no clue what some of the culture means or implies.

The only people with snotty attitudes like that are those kids from wayyyy out of town (Indiana, Vermont, etc.) who are trying way too hard to fit in. Oh, the tensions.

Amen to Bucky! For one thing, as someone born in Brooklyn (and yes, went to PS 52, Shellbank JHS and Sheepshead Bay HS -- all public schools)I can say that Gothamist is more than "totally awesome." And I would suspect those who move here from Nebraska are those who care to set limits on what is and is not "New York talk."

As for the photoshop experts so quick to prove they can tell what's real or not, your boss over at Kinko's called and said it's time to get back to work!

user-pic

Dude, you can tell it's fake because the guy walking down the sidewalk is exactly the same. We're not Photoshop gurus...just people who grew up doing "Where's Waldo?" and pattern recognition games. It's still a funny joke, though. It's on the Internet, which means it's real enough for me.

UG!: it's not a "fake" -- it was just a joke. I did it just for fun. A friend sent me the picture from this site; I placed the evolving dudes into it and sent it back; he, not noticing the details, misunderstood and thought it was an update! Then he sent it to Gothamist. Then when I told him it was just a joke he wrote to the Gothamist to let them know but they never posted the correction.
