Top of the Rock Sequel: The Night Edition

2005_11_esbatnight.jpg

Even though Gothamist got to visit the Top of the Rock during the day, we had also purchased tickets two months ago to visit on opening day night. And the city was a glittering jewel, inspiration for visitors to have romantic moments and attempt to capture the view for friends back home. We moved smoothly through, from getting our pre-printed tickets scanned to waiting for an elevator; guards said it was more crowded during the day, but the decks are pretty big, there would need to be lot of people to make it feel crowded.

More information about Top of the Rock. And see our daytime photographs.

According to this site and others, it's a $440 million condominium arrangement transacted when Speyer bought Rockefeller Center. That would make GE owner of all of the space they occupy or lease to others, not a tenant, just like any condo owner.

Tishman Speyer Properties owns all of Rockefeller Center; GE is just the primary tenant at 30 Rock, which is why they get the name.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't GE essentially own 30 Rock? That's why it's called the GE Building. That would explain why NBC is promoting it.

I love seeing the city from different perspectives, and it makes me happy, so for me, it was well worth it.

And it's not surprising the NBC and WNBC would promote Top of the Rock - they do work at Rockefeller Center and NBC owner GE seems to be the biggest tenant there.

  • Why would anyone want to pay $14.00 to go up to the top of a building? I never understood that, you get a better view going in and out of LaGuardia.

Also, WNBC/NBC promoted this thing up the wazoo.
