Gothamist has never been one for long distance running, but this weekend is the 36th New York City Marathon, and we're kind of excited. Sunday's 26.2 mile race features more than 37,000 participants and will span the 5 boroughs of New York City. While the marathon itself is in its 36th year, Sunday will be the 30th anniversary of the 5 borough race, which is detailed in a NY Times article today. Also today, the Post looks at some of the technology that runners are using now. Our personal favorite are the Nip Guards.
The NYC Marathon site has a bunch of fun stuff including an interactive map of the course (flash), a detailed course preview, and a five different cheering strategies.
Are there any Gothamist readers running this year? What's your target time? Most importantly, have you been following marathon tip #25, because we know we have.

Disaster on Sunday! Whatever, it'll be a blast. I hope I finish and I hope I don't finish last.
rob, i wish you luck. screw finishing, i hope you don't crap your pants during the race.
I am so happy that there are no cars in central park this week.
Good luck Rob, get a good stretch on those bands, and don't start off too fast!
For all the runners like myself who endured brain-scrambling hot runs over the summer and boot camp style soakers in driving, cold rain a few weeks ago, here's hoping for a great weather day on Sunday.
Where will Gothamist be cheering?
I'll be watching from my bar.
Suckers.
be sure to watch out for this this year..
