October 29: Europe in NYC
Just in case you can't afford to zip across the Atlantic this weekend, Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure magazines present Europe in NYC, where you can at least close your eyes and pretend while you sample European wines, authentic regional cuisine and participate in food, wine and travel seminars. Events include a Culinary World Cup: "Iron Chef style" featuring Alain Sailhac (French Culinary Institute) representing France, Cornelius Gallagher (Oceana) representing Ireland, José Andrés (Jaleo) representing Spain and Marcus Samuelsson (Aquavit) representing Sweden. Tickets are $85 in advance, $95 at the door and can be purchased online or by phone at 800.897.1464. 12 - 5 pm, Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street between 6th and 7th.
October 31: Roaring 20's Dinner at the Biltmore Room
Chef Gary Robins of The Biltmore Room will serve a five-course menu inspired by the opulent meals served at New York City’s great Jazz Age hotels. As part of the Halloween festivities, the restaurant’s staff will be decked out in flapper dresses and top hats, period music will be played, and retro cocktails poured. Guests are encouraged (but not required) to wear Roaring ’20s–themed costumes. $85 For reservations, call 212-807-0111. 290 Eighth Avenue between 24th and 25th Streets.
October 31: Dark Dining at Camaje
Get spooky on Halloween by dining in complete darkness. Camaje is hosting an evening of Dark Dining, where you'll eat you entire meal while blindfolded and allow yourself to be guided by your tastebuds, assuming you trust them. The secret meal includes four courses plus a palate cleanser and wine. There will be mystery "aural" performances to delight the guests. Seatings at 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, $70 per person includes wine. Call 212-673-8184 for reservations, which are required. Tax and gratuity are additional. 85 MacDougal Street.
