Halloween Music Picks

“Scary” Music by Ensemble Pamplemousse (who we interviewed last year) on Mischief Night!

In collaboration with The Rivington Salon, Ensemble Pamplemousse is pleased to announce its first ever Halloween concert bonanza! After indulging in the spooky sounds of Ensemble Pamplemousse the costumed and civilian guests will partake in food and drink, cavort amidst the artwork of Salon hostess Judith Braun and others, gaze at horror films projected on the walls, and encounter Langdon Crawford’s space sensitive sounds. This all takes place at The Rivington Salon’s inaugural event, on the eve of All Hallow’s Eve, arguably the most mysterious night of the year.

Featuring: George Crumb, BLACK ANGELS for electric string quartet, Robin Hayward, CRANK SHAFT for solo violin, Rama Gottfried, DEATH OF SAMO©™ for trombone quartet, Natacha Diels/Andrew Greenwald, XXXX for drumset and electronics. Sound installation(s) by Langdon Crawford, Art installation by Judith Braun.

Sunday // 7pm // The Rivington Salon [6 Rivington St] // $12, For reservations and more information email ensemblepamplemousse@earthlink.net

Of course, it's always Halloween with punk cabaret outfit the Dresden Dolls. They play Webster Hall tomorrow night, and are definitely worth checking out. It's also the time of year when bands don a sonic disguise and play albums that aren't their own in full. Here is a short list of who you can catch around town not being themselves this weekend:

2005_10_artsmusichallows.jpgMorning Theft performs as Weezer
Performing the entire "blue album" from start to finish, including help from a few friends. Welcome back to 1995!
Friday // 9pm // Fat Baby [Rivington St between Essex and Ludlow]

The Head Set perform as the Police
Performing the classic “Reggatta de Blanc”! Now that's some old Police, we were like 3 when "Message in a Bottle" came out.
Monday // 11pm // Pianos [Ludlow St. between Rivington and Stanton]

And finally, WFMU points us to the "Do They Know it's Halloween" song and video, which parodies and pays homage to the 1980's Band Aid effort. Enjoy, and tell us who YOU are seeing after dark this weekend...

Dresden Dolls and Black Dice are playing tomorrow night. Should be spooky. As will be Richie Hawtin on Sunday night.

No Rocket From The Crypt mention? FOR SHAME!
