Hey everyone--
A short note to announce a new feature: Gothamist Contribute. This is the first project from the long-rumored Gothamist Labs team (Frank, Neil, Jeff, and yours truly). In short, it's a page that lets you contribute ideas for stories to Gothamist- you pick them, and we will check the page every five minutes, and then write up the interesting tips as full posts on Gothamist. We are here to do your bidding! You can contribute in one of four ways:
1. Bookmarking a link on Delicious -- just tag with Gothamist
2. Uploading a photo to Flickr-- tag with Gothamist
3. Email a photo from your mobile phone -- email to photos@gothamist.com
4. Leaving an anonymous tip on the page
We are launching this page as the first step in a three-month long project to expand the community features on Gothamist. We love the 200+ comments we get every day from our readers (even you, Jack!) and we want to give you more ways to share your ideas, thoughts, and feedback with us. We're making this page public so you can draw from the same reservoir of tips that we do - and you should feel free to steal as many of these story ideas as you want to post on your own blogs. The more the merrier-- let a thousand blogflowers bloom! We only ask that you use this page for what it was intended for: Sharing ideas. We are going to be monitoring it for spam, off-topic stuff, press-releases, trolling, and related bad behavior, but please don't break it just because you can.
Side note: There are some tips you may not want to share with the general Gothamist public. Those you should email to Jen or to me [jen(at)gothamist(dot)com; jake(at)gothamist(dot)com]. If you email us a tip that you don't want to be traced back to you (for instance, to avoid getting Krucoff'd), just put a note in saying "secret" or "deep-background" or "please paraphrase". Email us from your Gmail account, not from your work account. We won't divulge the source of a tip unless forced to by a judge, and only then after we beat Judith Miller's record for days-in-jail on contempt. Of course, sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry-- you need to be the judge of that. Stay safe out there kids!
There are going to be about five more of these special purpose pages launching in the next 12 weeks-- I can't wait to show them to you. If you have ideas for community-oriented tools or pages, please email me. And thanks, as ever, for making Gothamist one of your daily reads!

nice idea. you sure the del.icio.us feed is working?
Perhaps its time to get a job.
Perhaps its time to get a job.
love it. also think you should do a gothamist unplugged sometime this winter. kind of like we're all little pieces of code running around but we have to use post-its and chalk boards. wait, maybe that's a dumb idea.
del.icio.us caches their feed in addition to the cache we have on Contribute, and they aren't dynamic, so times showing up on Contribute may vary.
Shouldn't the new word be "krucoffed" and not "krucoff'd? Combine Krucoff with offed and voila! Someone contact Webster's!
This is a pretty nice idea), but can you change the del.icio.us tag to "for_gothamist" or something similar? Most of what I would tag as "gothamist" are stories that are already on this site--kinda defeats the purpose.
I've got one big fat juicy suggestion for you. Since the people living in this city are more than half non-white, it would be great to see a more multi-cultural Gothamist to reflect the reality of New York, not some candy coated "Friends" version of New York that Gothamist is too often guilty of.
I disagree with Hank.
I say Gothamist should do more features on upper-class, bourgiƩ-only restaurants in "fashionable" neighborhoods, and cover news that applies to the prep-school demographic that represents the blogosphere-version of NYC.
Why risk losing your audience by covering the real New York City that could never afford or ever be welcomed into the society you do so well?
As long as you're asking your readers to work for you for free, I'd be happy to chew your food for you and regurgitate it into your collective yuppy-chow fed maws for you, The energy you save on mastication should enhance the intoxicating effects of all those $16 cocktails you like to throw down your gullets.
What 212 said; the "gothamist" tag is already widely used by readers of your fair site to tag existing gothamist articles with del.icio.us, so that's some gnarly overlap.
