It looks way too poorly executed (the underspray is intense) to be a faile stencil. I think it just may be a JM stencil done by someone with something to say.

I've seen some dysfunctional offices in my time, but the NY Times appears to take the cake. The sweaty lynch mob of geeks all looking for bylines attacking their co-worker shows how the paper has gone steeply down hill. They should fire the lot and hire the gothamist staff.
