This Week's Music Picks

Wolf Parade Camera phone looky-loos, this one's for you. We're talking about the biggest band to hit small to medium sized NYC venues since Sufjan Stevens, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and The Arcade Fire. We're talking about Montreal's latest buzz band Wolf Parade. You've got three chances to see them this week. That's three chances to see them before they come back to play Webster Hall. If you can't find a ticket to the sold out shows Monday and Tuesday at Bowery Ballroom and Northsix, try to snag one of the non-student tickets available at the door to the NYU performance on Thursday. Listen to songs at their MySpace page.

Jon Brion "Jon Brion is renowned for his regular Friday-night gigs at the Los Angeles club Largo, which feature covers and original songs, a variety of instruments and the occasional guest." If you haven't heard of him, you either haven't been paying attention (he composed the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack, produced Kanye West's latest, and was responsible for Fiona Apple's scrapped Extraordinary Machine), or you just don't live in LA where his Friday-night residency sells out every week. Guests who've played with him include Fiona Apple, Beck, Elliott Smith, Aimee Mann, Jack Black, and Kanye West. We're not sure why tickets are still available to one of his two shows at Canal Room Tuesday night, but consider yourself lucky. For more info, check out what we thought of his last NYC show.

Also this week: Craig Wedren celebrates the release of his record on Bright Eyes' label - Monday night at Mo Pitkins. Arts & Crafts latest signee, New Buffalo, play an intimate show at the Living Room on Tuesday. Patterson Hood from Drive by Truckers is playing solo at Mercury Lounge (also Tuesday). Depeche Mode play an extremely intimate show at Bowery Ballroom on Friday. The Mountain Goats and Prayers & Tears of Digby Sellers are at Bowery Ballroom on Saturday. Eric Clapton reunites with Cream at MSG on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Odetta Plays Satalla Friday.

I also miss the day by day. Easier to read, easier to think about scheduling.

definitely bring back the day by day. Far more to the point than reading the Voice music listings.

The day by day format is redundant when Time Out and Oh My Rockness exist. More selective picks are def the way to go, keep up the great work!
