Bloomberg is way out of line on this. Even though Silverstein appears to be a bit of a bumbler he has the right to build whatever he wants on the site without the heavy handed eminent domain laws kicking in. I don't know that Bloomberg getting involved is a plus anyway.
The Mayor doesn't have that kind of pull to remove anyone out of a Port Authority spot. If the PA and the Governor won't do it, he should shut up and worry about the rest of the city. Also, this new idea of his to add housing to that location is outrageous. 1)Who could afford it, 2)it's disrespectful 3) if you want to be that close, just try Battery Park City: residences and schools already there.
What a mess we have down there. I suggest we fill the hole up with dirt, plant some grass, and agree to revisit our plans in five or ten years.
