No Stadium, But the West Side Has Free Tivos

Can it be? You Can't Make It Up tells us there will be free TiVos handed out at the Javits Center:

"TiVo will be mourning the VCR's demise; please come to pay your respects and receive a free TiVo. Arrive with a remembrance of your VCR – a tape – and you will receive a free Series-2 40 hour TiVo while supplies last.

Where: The Crystal Palace (front lobby) of the Javitz Center at 11th and 35th
When: Friday October 14th at noon
How: Bring in an old VCR tape and receive a new TiVo 40-hour Series2"

The current event at the Javits Center is Digital Life, "the only consumer technology event showcasing the latest in all things digital." Hmm, now if we can only find a VCR tape.

If you happen to at the Javits Center for said event - or decide to walk over in this lovely weather - let us know if this happened and how much stampeding there was.

  • Are you sure 40428 of this?!?

  • my experience in the line wasn't that bad, about 45 minutes in the first line about 10 minutes in the second until I learned I could pick it up later. Oh, and it got me into the convention where I got to play Quake 4, Battlefront2, etc.

Yep, I heard yesterday that you have to sign up for Tivo service right there. Anyway, I'm totally pissed that I have to work this weekend...I really wanted to go to DigitalLife. A friend of mine went today and got to play Quake 4 on a hi-def screen. Plus, the XBox 360 is playable there, and supposedly the games look great. So jealous.

  • I walked over from 36th & 8th ave on my lunch break, and I got soaked in the process. I arrived around 1pm. There were still machines available; however, they require you to sign a contract to get one.

Simply put: I ain't signin no contract!

At least I got some soaking wet pants and an inside-out umbrella out of the deal.

    Wait...D'OH!

Oh they're doing it allright - I'm a block away, I grabbed a copy of something and walked over. basically there's a line to get on a line. The unit they're giving away is selling now for 50 bucks - my time is worth more so I bailed. Nobody was fighting yet - would love to see it though when they get down to the last two boxes.

Wish I'd know about this before I left for work this morning. I wonder if I'd get two for bringing in my old VCR?
