"the Bloomberg administration has wanted to "containerize" garbage pick up. Which means that bins full of garbage would just be rolled onto the truck and then dumped." Hilarious. This "technology" has only been in use in Europe (and proabably elsewhere in the US) for oh, TWENTY YEARS now. And people are amazed at how many rats have overrun the city... Maybe the heaping mounds of trashbags sitting on sidewalks overnight twice a week has a little to do with it? Hmmm? Maybe just a little?

all i can see with containers is sanitation workers crushing their fingers. also, nice how their starting salary will be higher than a cop now.

I'm fascinated by this containerization idea. The whole process of dumping piles of garbage bags on the sidewalk seems crazy. If there were a couple of large, enclosed dumpsters per block, the DoS could just come and pick them up, wouldn't even have to get their hands dirty.
