Chinese Food Delivery Man Dies, Shooters Still On the Loose

The Chinese food delivery man shot earlier this week by men who robbed him as he made a delivery to a Bronx apartment building died on Tuesday afternoon. Fahua Chen, 52, was shot in the eye as he tried to trap his robbers in the building's vestibule while waiting for the police. The robbers fled, and the police are still looking for them. Hearing about this, hearing that Chen's delivery was for only $9 and that the robbers left behind his wallet and cellphone, makes us sad and incredibly angry - he was just doing his job, the way Enrique Soriano in the Bronx was just on his way to work in the middle of the night when he was killed on a subway platform, and there are too many stories like this. City Councilman John Liu, who has been a crusader for Chinese immigrants, said "There's an undercurrent to these brutal attacks on immigrant workers, because they are sometimes not considered to be real people by the perpetrators."

And Chen's daughter, a student in England who hasn't seen her father in ten years, is trying to get a visa to come to New York, but has been unsuccessful so far at the U.S. Embassy in London. Liu is trying to help her, and the City Council's Black, Latino, and Asian Caucus is offering a $1,000 reward for information. The police are urging people to call (800) 577-TIPS with any details.

Think you meant this link.

It's amazing that his daughter is having such a hard time under such circumstances. In any case, I hope they catch these two "people" who shot him.

Thanks, S.D., for noting that.

I agree - I'm glad the Daily News ran that story because that will hopefully speed things up. It's so unbearably sad.

Pedestrians breathe a sigh of relief as their sidewalks around the area are now safe of delivery men on bicycles ... for now.

no, he's funny. tee hee tee hee

Very sad. I hope they find these guys. Delivery people put up with a lot of shit from people and actually have a fairly dangerous job. They need more respect as they are just trying to support their families and live normal lives; they have normal wants and hopes like the rest of us. It always makes me sad when people don't give respect to people that have low paying service jobs.

John Liu is like the city's Al Sharpton ,except he's asian and ineffective. Why the hell are you guys being so immature, and refering to the shooters as those two "people" since it's a given that 90% of the time of all asian robberies involves a black guy.

I wonder how many of us would make deliveries today or any of the days earlier this week.
And, why didn't the two supers of the building helped? This delivery guy trapped them in and these thugs shot through the glass or plexi door to shoot him.
They'll find them soon, just like those three the last time.

Rest in peace Mr. Chen. I'm sure someone will bring the low-lifes to justice. k
