The latest WNBC/Marist Poll says that Mayor Michael Bloomberg has a 27 point lead over challenger Fernando Ferrer, which is 12 whopping points more than he had in a poll two weeks ago. Interesting points from the polls: Democrats preferred Bloomberg to Ferrer, 50% to 42%; over 80% think Bloomberg will win; 64% weren't bothered by the Mayor's decision not to debate at the Apollo; and 84% thought the Mayor was right to tell everyone about the subway security threat. Now, if you're wondering whether the revelation that the threat was actually a hoax (the latest reports says the informant was trying to get money from the government) and that the city may have jumped the gun, so to speak, would have affected those polled, the survey was conducted this past Sunday through yesterday, which means rumbling and suspicions would already be in the sample.
The groups, 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement and National Latino Officers Association, (which support Ferrer) think that Blooomberg used the subway issue to dodge the debate, but the Mayor continued to say that at the time of investigations, the threat seemed credible. He further explained that an informant passed a lie detector test and screamed, "You're to late to stop us!" which freaked out officials. The NY Times has a longer article about the threat's "journey from Iraq to New York to Forget About It." That would actually be "to Fugheddaboutit."
And Democrats are saying the Mayor is hypocritical for criticizing Ferrer's acceptance of $36,000 in tobacco company contributions, since the Mayor accepted $461,000 from tobacco companies for the Republican National Convention last year. Now, not to say that the Mayor isn't hypocritical, but one would expect there to be tobacco companies contributing to the convention as they are practically the lifeblood of the Republican Party. The Observer has a story about the Mayor's campaign trying to make it all about his legacy - if there is one; we assume there's not much about Ferrer because the race, at this point, is Bloomberg's to lose.

Something is wrong with that poll. I dont have to be a Ferrer supporter to recognize that political tides just dont swing like that, especially when there have not been any major scandles to move the numbers.
yeah. this is probably a conspiracy by the evil government. Karl Rove is behind all this!
Besides, Howeard Dean said that all democrats are behind Ferrer, maybe 3 or 4 supports Bloomberg. This proofs that the poll is faked.
where is micheal moore or dan rather???
Isn't it time for the Democrats to wake up and realize that Ferrer is damaged good, and is not electable for many years to come. Bloomberg is not perfect, but things have been good for the past 4 years, and most NYers don't like to disturb the status quo. Remember how controversial Rudy was, but he had no problem being elected, and he was a lot more 'Republican' than Bloomie. Expect a landslide win for Bloomberg come Nov and stop your whining.
As much as I'd really like to vote against Bloomberg, I'd much rather vote FOR someone else. Ferrer has just had one misstep after the next and doesn't seem like a candidate worth voting for.
Didn't the Dems learn this in '04? You can't just vote against a bad president, you have to vote for a good candiate.
I thought we were sold down the river with the whole RNC thing, but you can't win them all, it can't always go your way. I know there are some serious Freddy supporters here, so this is for them.
I'm a registered democrat, but I usually support the person, not the idea/party. I'm not voting for Freddy because he just doesn't come across as a strong leader. Everytime i see him speak, or interviewed on NY1 or something, he always answers his questions as if he's being attacked, or has this tone in his responses as if he's the poor ol' victim. He just doesn't exude a sense of confindence and leadership, I really don't have faith in him. I think it's his manner of speaking, it's not appealing.
Plus ... the 'stache has gotta go.
who are these people who voted for ferrer in the primaries?
I'm voting for ferrer not because he's any better but to be against bloomberg. We all know he's not a real viable candidate, he's a long time nyc pol.
Get weiner in there, any true ny'er would vote for him. Those who went to public school in nyc must of had one teacher named weiner and he or she did thier job well.
Both are liars, one a business goon the other a lifelong pol.
OT, did ya notice the mayor hemming and hawwing at the terror hoax? It was the first time I heard him stammer in a press conference. ummmmmm mmmmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmm We did what we had to do mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmm FBI was here, did you see that guy mmmm mmmmm mmmmm
Ok, I'm not a Republican but I am a Bloomberg supporter. This criticism of Bloomberg and Kelly over the terror alert last week seems completely half-baked to me. Do Ferrer supporters think he would have done something differently? What? Flown to Iraq and interrogated the tipster himself, exposing the hoax? Or would he have kept the information secret until he was extra-double-sure that it was true? Not increased police presence in the subway?
Which of these options is supposed to make me want to vote for him again?
Where is Blike and his 2 (non)cents?
Yes, the democrats have to realize that you can't just run a campaign on the "I'm not my opponent" platform. It doesn't sell. Bloomberg has demonstrated that he has a vision and is unafraid to dissent from his party (which was Democrat prior to running for mayor). Freddie just comes across as a political opportunist with his Dialo gaffe and his public school misstatement (Word to the wise Fred, blaming it on a subordinate just makes you look like you can't delegate properly and run a loose ship). Bloomberg isn't beholden to the political life either. He is capable of making decisions based on what he thinks needs to happen. Ferrer has to answer to the political machine. If Bloomie doesn't win, he goes back to running his mutli-billion dollar company and being a philanthropist. Freddie loses and he goes back to leeching money off the tax-payers via the DNC.
> Something is wrong with that poll.
You are right. The lead is not 27 points.
NY1 reports that another polls was released today.
The Quinnipiac poll has the mayor holding a 28 percentage point lead over Ferrer.
You can't be 72255 serious?!?
