Safe!

2005_10_sposada.jpgThe Yankees used timely hitting and solid pitching to beat the Angels 3-2 Sunday night knotting their series at two games apiece. The decisive Game Five will be played tonight at 8pm.

Shawn Chacon gave the Yankees six plus innings, allowing only two runs before yielding to Al Leiter in the seventh Despite Chacon’s solid outing, the Yankees trailed 2-1 when he left the game. In the bottom of the seventh Robinson Cano singled and after Bernie Williams flied out, Jorge Posada walked. With two runners on, Ruben Sierra lined a pinch-hit single to right. Cano came around to score and Posada advanced to third on the throw. Derek Jeter was up next and hit a slow chopper to third, the throw home was wide and despite Bengie Molina’s best efforts, he couldn’t apply the tag to Posada in time giving the Yankees the lead. Mariano Rivera worked two perfect innings for the save.

Bartolo Colon will face Mike Mussina tonight. Randy Johnson who got bombed in Game Three of this series will be ready to pitch in relief as will just about every pitcher the Yankees and Angels have. Tonight’s winner will be rewarded with a flight to Chicago and a game with the White Sox tomorrow. Gothamist recommends caffeinated champagne for the victory celebration.

Well, if the Yankees lose, at least the Red Sox are out of it and everyone can shut up.
