Greenwich Village residents are waging a war to keep Jefferson Market Library [425 Sixth Avenue] open and not just during an "Open House NY" weekend. In case you're in the dark: Susan K., a transplanted Angeleno is trying to close this facility for (boo hoo) TWO years and thinks she can sneak it past Community Bd 2. Hmmmm.

Don't get me wrong - OHNY is great. But there's really only a handful of public sites that are open that aren't generally, or at least every once in a while. The private homes and offices are really what's worth seeing.

i suggest: saturday-- the jefferson market tower, and the 59th street garbage facility tour sunday-- the two temples in LES, one on eldridge, one on norfolk.
