This Week's Music Picks

Metric We don't know where to begin with show recommendations this week. Emily Haines is in town with her band Metric for shows at Bowery Ballroom and Southpaw. Today Pitchfork declared the new Broken Social Scene album, on which she appears, "best new music." Broken Social Scene's new label-mates, The Most Serene Republic, are opening both shows. Then there's the Decemberists. Back in town once again, they're also playing two shows - Webster Hall tonight (Tuesday) and Wednesday. Nada Surf, Beck, U2, Keane, Robbers on High Street, King of France, Paul McCartney, Social Distortion, Zap Mama, David Gray, East Village Opera Company, Sufjan Stevens, Sons & Daughters, The Raveonettes, Radio 4, The Working Title, and even Jethro Tull are ALL playing two shows each in or around town this week. At least you've got options.

Dead Can Dance Playing only one show this week, but two shows this month, are the Rapture. It was back in 2003 that Pitchfork declared Echoes the best album of the year, and it's been a while since they've done anything. Naturally then, people are excited for the late night show at Crash Mansion on Thursday. We're excited too, but not nearly as excited as we are for the return of a group who's been missing for much longer. Dead Can Dance play a long-awaited reunion show at Radio City Music Hall Saturday night. We think it's exciting, but it's possible we're just cult-like DCD-Trekkies.

Ooooh Brooklyn Gothamist.... you pain me. You bring me great pain. You forgot United State of Electronica (U.S.E.) at Knitting Factory main space (before Hatfield). For $8! Don't let the price or the early set time fool you.

Of all the shows I might see this year, few have met with so much anticipation. Not to be missed.

weird. I actually thought I at least had that show in the listings. I'll add it. thanks

for those interested, the bravo silva/morning theft show saturday night @ rothko is a FREE show starting at 8:30pm. can't beat free.
