"Read" Comes to Bryant Park

2005_10_01greatread3.jpg

With the cancelation this year of the once huge, then smaller, now gone "New York is Book Country" (if you want to see a sad website, check out theirs) it looked for a moment there like Gotham was going to be without a book fair this year. But don't fret, a corporate replacement is all lined up. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Times best-seller list (huzzah?) the Times, Target, Barnes & Noble, a few other corporations and the NYPL are throwing "Great Read in the Park" from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow in Bryant Park.

What do you get for showing up? Well, more than 150 "known" authors, panel discussions, readings, book signings, a children's area, book appraisals, entertainment like "WQXR's 'Music to Read By' live on stage," a used book sale and an on-site Barnes & Noble. You can find a .pdf guide to all the events here.

Sounds like an ok time to us and the weather could be a lot worse for spending some time in Bryant Park. But it's no "Book Country." Not only was it fun, but they always had the best posters. Sigh.
