Pat Robertson is newsworthy because of his media empire, but having run for president does not make him a mainstream political player and he speaks for no real church, only himself. And compare his comments - which were foolish - to what comes out of Mosques all over the world. When an obscure Christian group criticized the Teletubbies or some such nonsense, the media runs amok. They ought to pay more attention to what Muslim leaders are teaching. It is a sign of how depraved they have become that a clown like this was considered mainstream enough to work for the FDNY.

you're partly right nola, and i doubt a christian chaplain would get away with this either. he would be useless to FDNY. none of those guys would ever want to hear his dillusional sermons and would probably be extremely hostile to him. but to claim christians are more carefully scrutinized than muslims is absurd. pat robertson made headlines because he is a national public figure leading millions of sheep. he ran for president of our country and he promoted the assassination of a democratically-elected foriegn president on television causing real foriegn relations problems. it should be obvious even to you which guy deserves the headlines.

What kind of idiot thinks that living in the US allows you to say anything you like without any consequence? This guy is just as nutty as a Holocaust denier. Would a Holocaust denier find much work in Hollywood?

And only a fool would think a Christian chaplain would get away with this - Christians are scrutinized much more carefully than loopy Muslims. That's why Pat Robertson makes headlines and this guy doesn't.

I'm frankly boggled that anyone thinks that any employee of the FDNY -- Muslim, Christian, Jewish or Pastafarian -- could have made those statements in public and not immediately gotten strung out to dry. Not a damn chance, sorry.

(Almost a boggled as I am by Imam Habib's combover. Who does he think he's fooling?)

"Is this or is this NOT the United States of America?"

Your right. But it’s foolish to say things like that when you work for an agency as touchy as they are about 9/11 as the FDNY. I don’t believe he should have been forced from his position, but even in this country watch what you say unless you want to find yourself in the dog house.

After that little episode, his work environment would have been a little hostile anyway.
And yes, a Christian chaplain would’ve probably have gotten away with it.

"Maybe he should’ve kept those thoughts to himself."

Is this or is this NOT the United States of America?

And I seriously doubt this would have happened to the man had he been the FDNY's Christian chaplain.

Conspiracy? Maybe... there are a lot of wacky ideas going around, and you can go ahead and make those kinds of assumptions if you want…

But not when you’re the FDNY’s religious Muslim leader.

Maybe he should’ve kept those thoughts to himself.
