Extra, Extra

- Oh, you better believe it: The MTA votes that open containers (to drink from) are forbidden on the subways, but they're okay on the platform; and now token clerks can refuse entry to service dogs if they seem like a threat somehow
- The Giants and Jets will share a stadium in NJ; the borough of Queens - and quite a few fans in Long Island - weep
- Fernando Ferrer went back to school and found himself in violation of regulations that say candidates cannot campaign in schools (he was there to give a speech; his camp claims he wasn't campaigning, but kids say he did say what he'd do if he were mayor)
- A four year-old girl was abandoned on a Queens street; the police are looking for more information
- Cops fired 77 shots at an ex-con who allegedly fired at them and did not put down his weapon; the ex-con was wounded
- A Brooklyn teacher was arrested for statutory rape; Newsday called it rape in the lede, whereas the Post just wrote that it was a "sexual affair"
- And our favorite tuber ever is a Neighborhoodie of the Day!

FORCE THE JETS AND GIANTS TO DROP THE 'NY' FROM THEIR NAMES

The open container law is pre-existing, if little known to us. They're upholding it, even though the definition is still at the discretion of the police officer on a case by case basis. So really -- so what? Unless you have some serious jerk of an officer, I can't see this MTA decision actually changing our morning commute.

The article actually claims that candidates may not visit schools "within 60 days of an election." Implies that any other time it's OK.
