Mets Elimination, Part 2

2005_09_sreyesphil.jpg

Breaking news!! The Mets are now officially eliminated from the playoffs. Despite winning last night's game in Philadelphia 3-2, a win by the Houston Astros sealed the deal. While the Mets haven't been in contention since their road trip earlier in September, they have managed to win 5 straight games and move three games over .500 and into 3rd place of the NL East. Of course none of that matters at this point.

To add insult to injury, the Braves clinched their 14th straight NL East title last night with their win and Philadelphia's loss to the Mets. Love them or hate them, 14 in a row is a commendable feat. If only the Braves could win more than one World Series in that stretch.

The Mets close out the series with the Phillies today and return home Thursday for four games with the Rockies to close out the season.

Its significant that the Mets have the chance to finish the year above .500, thats something to build on and props should be given to Omar Minaya for turning things around. He is super proactive and I bet that he will make a few good moves over the winter. It was a long shot to think that this year's Mets would be contenders, but next year, provided Pedro stays healthy, Beltran gets comfy, and Omar can sign a decent starting pitcher, you Mets fans you have a lot to look forward to. That being said,

LETS GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!
