Last year Bob Dylan chronicled his own life. Tonight the first feature length biography on him, No Direction Home, will air on PBS. The Martin Scorsese directed film is split in to two parts, as follows...
Part I: Bob Dylan's life and music from 1961-66 (airing tonight @ 9pm)
Part II: Conclusion. Bob Dylan's life and music (airing tomorrow night @ 9pm)
We've been hearing great things from those who have already caught some of the film, so we might even take a night off of watching Lost: Season 1 to tune in. The two-parts of No Direction Home include "never-seen performance footage and interviews with artists and musicians whose lives intertwined with Dylan's during that time. Dylan talks openly and extensively about this critical period in his career, detailing the journey from his hometown of Hibbing, Minnesota, to Greenwich Village, New York, where he became the center of a musical and cultural upheaval, the effects of which are still felt today."
This also marks the first time The Bob Dylan Archives has made available rare film and stills, including footage from performances at the 1963, 1964 and 1965 Newport Folk Festivals, interviews with Allen Ginsberg, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Maria Muldaur. Fans have also contributed rare footage from their own collections.
Scorsese commented on the film and on Dylan, "I had been a great fan for many years when I had the privilege to film Bob Dylan for The Last Waltz. I've admired and enjoyed his many musical transformations. For me, there is no other musical artist who weaves his influences so densely to create something so personal and unique."

watch this movie. especially part 2.
-I was optimistic about the release, but was overall really dissapointed. i felt in the 2 hours it was just a skim over of dylan and the artists that influenced him, lacking any real direction or new material. while a good portion consisted of "new material" as in alot of it was fresh interviews with dylan and others, it was nothing that anybody that has ever listened to or read about dylan couldnt pick up other places. I'm quite sure i will leave the TV off tommorow and go back and have a listen to bringing it all back home instead. That is to say if you don't know anything about Dylan maybe it would be enjoyable just not for someone into music.
