NYPD Podcasts

First, it was the cargo pants. Now the NYPD is jumping on the trend bandwagon by podcasting its news updates. Commissioner Ray Kelly says that this is the first program of its kind in an American police force, and that "it gives us the ability to get information out quickly in another medium." The first podcast is about UN closings, ID theft, and the NYPD officers that went to help out Hurricane Katrina victims. It's pretty cool, but it's also a little bit of the "propaganda you can listen to" as well. Gothamist wonders if there will be a podcast about iPod thefts at some point. And for the record, Commissioner Kelly has an iPod that he uses to listen "to music, audio books and language lessons."
