Wait, two police trucks were racing from Murray Hill to Columbus Circle to catch a shoplifter? Why?

I'm always concerned about cars jumping the curb when people "lose control" of them. I seem to be the only one. It is rather insane that only a 3" or 4" difference in height separate flesh and blood beings from roaring tons of steel. There should be pylons or whatever they're called along every sidewalk. But oh well. Try to be aware, people. I go nuts when I see people with vacant expressions letting their kids stand or walk on the very edge of the city sidewalks.

If there were any justice - and there isn't - the driver of the Sentra would lose his license immediately. People nowadays have no respect for the lights and sirens of emergency vehicles. And why should they? The vehicles are in such a rush that they don't keep track of what cars or pedestrians ignore them. There are no consequences for obstructing emergency vehicles.

It reminds me of a scene from the old "48 Hours" show, before it turned into a murder of the week program. The crew was riding inside an ambulance that was responding to an emergency call with lights and siren going. A woman just casually crossed the street right in front of the ambulance as if she had all the time in the world.
