I was one of several hundred people arrested before the RNC at the August Critical Mass for riding a bicycle on a public street. I wrote about the experience here: http://blog.underafter.com/archives/2005/08/a_year_ago_toda.html

There's also a lot of interesting developments regarding the RNC arrests. The justice dept is investigating them and the NYCLU just issued a report that concludes: "the right to protest was severely undermined by the mass arrests of hundreds of peaceful demonstrators and bystanders, the pervasive surveillance of lawful demonstrators, and the illegal fingerprinting and prolonged detention of nearly 1,500 people charged with mostly minor offenses." More info here:

nola, I think Kerry lost the election, not we who peacefully demonstrated. So, can you can explain why you paint all RNC protesters as "idiots" and "dummies"?

The larger issue is, of course, that our society is starting to reach the point where protest and dissent itself is actively being repressed.

So, thank you left-wing couch potatoes, for doing nothing but whining about Bush, and then whining about those doing something about him.

Those idiot protesters sure turned off voters in Ohio. Thank you, left wing dummies, for helping us win again.

I can only imagine what it's like to be wrongly arrested in a legal protest and then held for three days. But to compare that to "Guatanamo" kinda diminishes the abuses going on down there, don't ya think?

Whether you're for the right or left, you cannot ignore the fact that hundreds of cases were thrown out, due to the arrests of innocent bystanders who happened to be caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is careless police procedure by the NYPD. And the mayor fully supported it. We need to hold the mayor accountable.
