hey there: usually, i spell girl as girl but sometimes grrl or sometimes gurl just for fun. as far as community goes, i don't know about you but i just came from a gathering of over 150 asian american spoken word artists in boston two weekends ago and that doesn't even cover the tip of the iceberg of the hundreds if not thousands of young people and old people alike who attend open mics and poetry slams every week all across the country and the world. i am comfortable with the fact that i don't fit into your stereotype of who you think i should be. take care, kelly

What kind of community is she talking about? She sounds like some ex-pat mid-western crypto-hipster trying to be real. Sheesh!! She should go to law school or something like that. (my apologies for the Asian-American stereotypes, ok,ok, she should go to the New School for an MS in social work, THERE!) The poetry scene ended when junkies stopped nodding out in front of the Nyorican Poets Cafe. (around 1998-99)
