Big Manhattan meet "Little Manhattan"

We probably should have mentioned this to you before, but with all of the arts going on around town (Fringe to the left of us, Howl to the right!) it just slipped our minds. So here goes. We know you love free movies outdoors (who doesn't?) but most of the time the movies shown in those series are of the 'oldie-but-goodie' variety, not that we're complaining considering the recent crop of movies. That is not the case, however, with the final night of the 3rd Annual Central Park Film Festival. What makes this series different from all those other series? All of the movies shown include scenes shot in the "most filmed public park in the world." And tonight the fest closes out with the New York premiere of "Little Manhattan."

The movie, a look at life and first love in New York as seen through the eyes of a fifth-grader, is directed by Mark Levin and stars Josh Hutcherson and Charlie Ray(above), Bradley Whitford and Cynthia Nixon. And Gothamist's sources tell us its adorable to boot.

So if you looking for something to do tonight, head over to Rumsey Playfield (that's mid-Park, enter off of 72nd and Fifth). The movie starts at 8. And we hear there might even be a special guest or two...

i have to admit that i was late to see this screening. (i got stuck in coney island with bill and kate). After walking around the perimeter of the field where they were showing the film (at the top of a hill? wouldn't it make more sense to show it in a valley so more of us could see it?) but anyways the security guard wouldn't let us in. We decidied to sit down in the running path and watch best we could from the perimeter...totally worth it, unbelievably cute and besides one Jenn V. worked as an assistant editor on it, yaha! worther seeing for sure. I think it opens sometime around september 24th in NYC, or something like that, keep an eye out.

so THIS is what you guys did when you disappeared to "touvaloo"? hahaha- great movie, by the way...

Jenn, I don't know what you are talking about. I always thought it was spelled Tuvalu (like the country with an extra -lu). But seriously, it really was an adorable movie. Like Annie Hall for the fifth-grade set. If the acting hadn't been so laid back it would have been waaaaay to sweet, but it was so it wasn't. And the Upper West Side hasn't looked like that much fun in years.
