Comedy and Charitable Giving...together at last

2005_08_artschampagne.jpgGothamist has had its ups and downs with champagne. That sweet Valentine's Day when we had a romantic candle lit dinner followed by strawberries and bubbly...our sister’s wedding where we had too much and now are taunted by the chants of “do your monkey dance again!” at family gatherings...But this isn’t about that. This is about Champagne, as in Seattle’s sketch comedy duo who will be at the PIT [154 W. 29th Street] on Friday. Champagne consists of Troy Fischnaller and Dusty Warren, two members of Seattle’s acclaimed sketch group, Flaming Box of Stuff, as well as being founding members of Some Kind of Cult (HBO’s Sketch Pad 2). They have performed all over the country with both groups, but this is the New York premiere of their brand new show.
Champagne – Friday August 26 – 11PM - $8

This Sunday the theatre ensemble the New York Neo-Futurists (performers of the long running, Chicago originated “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind”) are holding a comedy/variety benefit to support their efforts of becoming a non-profit. The show’s line up consists of Chelsea Peretti, I Eat Pandas,Clay McLeod Chapman and several others.
Galapagos Art Space – 70 N. 6th Street, Williamsburg – August 28, 6-10pm - $15

And finally, support another good cause this weekend by checking out the Tank Yard Sale. Or drop off donations for them to sell (tax deductible…so you wont have to donate your beat up car to the Kidney Foundation...again) tonight at the Tank from 6-9pm. Try finding another yard sale with a naughty lemonade stand, surprise bake sale and live music and stand-up.
The Tank Yard Sale – 208 W. 37th Street – Saturday 2-6pm

Liz, I think you're perfect. Have my babies?

Liz, you should've highlighted that Flaming Box of Stuff AND Kasper Hauser are here this week--two of the best sketch troupes in the whole country. It's nice that you single out Champagne, but seriously... it'd be a shame to miss either of these groups while they're here. You know better.

This is a big ol' sketch comedy weekend here in NYC. Some kickass groups, Fearsome, Meat and Elephant Larry are returning from the Portland Sketch Fest (check out EL at the PIT on Saturday), we welcome Kasper Hauser, a group from San Francisco at the UCB, and my group, A Week of Kindness, is kicking it festival style at the Medicine Show Theatre with Sketchstock 3000 (www.sketchstock.com). Go see some sketch, because the New York scene is starting to get hot!
