A Big Night for Brooklyn

A baseball All-Star game was played in Brooklyn Tuesday night for the first time since 1949 and while it wasn’t major leaguers playing; the Class A players of the Mets and Yankees did quite well on their own. Over 9,000 fans, the second most ever to attend a game at Keyspan Park, saw the National Legue defeat the American League 5-4.

Local teams were well represented, sending seven players to the game and the manager of the American League squad, former Yankee, Andy Stankiewicz. Staten Island Yankee, David Seccombe, started for the AL and went two scoreless innings. His teammate, Joshua Schmidt provided one scoreless inning of relief. Staten Island players contributed on offense as well as Eduardo Nunez and Kyle Larsen went two for five with two RBI’s.

The Brooklyn Cyclones’ Bobby Parnell started for the National League and struck out four batters in two innings of work. Jospeh Holden got the start in centerfield in front of the hometown crowd and added a hit. Third baseman, Josh Peterson had an injured back and was unable to play. It was a great night at the ballpark and we may not have to wait so long for another All-Star Game to be played in New York.
